abstract

neoplasms that arise in the salivary glands are relatively rare, yet they represent a wide variety of both benign and malignant histologic subtypes. approximately 70% of the salivary gland tumors affect parotid gland with the submandibular gland being affected in 5-10% of the cases, sublingual gland in 1% and minor glands in 5-15% of the cases. submandibular gland tumors are relatively rare and very few studies have been reported in the literature that is exclusively conducted on tumors affecting submandibular gland. in this paper, we describe a case of pleomorphic adenoma affecting submandibular gland with brief review of current literature on submandibular gland tumors. key words: pleomorphic adenoma, salivary gland tumors, submandibular gland

Congenital Pleomorphic Adenoma in a Submandibular Gland of a Newborn- A Case Report

Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm in children, which can be treated by simple excision. This tumor is rarely included in the differential diagnosis of solid submandibular masses in children. In the neonates, congenital pleomorphic adenoma usually presents in the nasopharynx. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and recurrence is not expected. We ...

Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma of the submandibular gland with renal metastases composed exclusively of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma: a case report

Background: Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma is an exceedingly rare neoplasm of the submandibular gland with an overall poor prognosis. Metastatic deposits of carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma are either composed exclusively of malignant elements or contain mixed benign and malignant components. Case Presentation: We describe the case of a 63-year-old male with a carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma...

Basal Cell Adenoma of the Parotid Gland: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Salivary gland tumors are among the pathologies in the head and neck that may be challenging in diagnosis and treatment. Most benign tumors occur in the parotid gland. Pleomorphic Adenoma is the most common type. Basal Cell Adenoma is a subtype of the Monomorphic Adenoma with rare occurrence. Proper diagnosis and clinical evaluation by the use of radiography can lead the physician to the best t...

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Parotid Gland: Report of a Case With Review of Literature

BACKGROUND Pleomorphic adenomas are benign salivary gland tumors, which predominantly affect the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. The "pleomorphic" nature of the tumor can be explained on the basis of its epithelial and connective tissue origin. The tumor has a female predilection between 30-50 years of age. Slowly progressing asymptomatic swelling is the usual presentation of the tumor. ...

Synchronous Parotid and Homolateral Submandibular Gland Pleomorphic Adenoma

Introduction: Pleomorphic adenomas are benign neoplasms of salivary glands. The simultaneous homolateral occurrence of these tumors in salivary glands is exceedingly rare.   Case Report: An adult female presenting to our OPD with the swelling of right-sided preauricular and submandibular regions was diagnosed with the pleomorphic adenoma based on fine needle aspiration c...

Recurrent Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Submandibular Gland.

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign tumor of salivary glands. Most PAs occur in the parotid (80%), followed by the submandibular gland (10%) and minor salivary and sublingual glands (10%). Submandibular gland PAs usually manifest in the submandibular area as a painless hard mass. Although several recurrent parotid gland PA cases have been reported in the literature, recurrent sub...
